In accordance with new Government of Alberta COVID-19 restrictions. Once we have a reopening date it will be posted here, on our Instagram, and emailed to members. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday, and we'll see you in the New Year!
Welcome back to Bolder! On this page you will find the Alberta Government’s Recommendations for re-opening for our industry. You will also find our new mitigation strategies and recommendations to open while creating a safe environment for climbers, staff and the community.
You've got a question? We've got an answer
Yes, rental shoes are still available at Bolder. Anyone renting shoes must wear socks. The shoes will be thoroughly disinfected after each use and not be returned to the stock for at least 24 hours. Rental chalk will not be available due to the inability to sanitize between uses. However, we do have chalk and chalk bags for sale at Bolder.
Yes, effective August 1st the City of Calgary passed a bylaw requiring masks/face coverings to be worn in all indoor public spaces. For the safety of our community and to comply with this new bylaw we are requiring all patrons and staff to wear a mask or face covering while at Bolder, however as fitness activities are listed as one of the exemptions you may lower your mask while actively climbing/using exercise equipment as long as it is worn at all other times. If you forgot a mask we have disposable masks available for sale for $3/mask, and re-usable cloth masks while quantities last.
Both the men’s and women’s washrooms are still open, however there are some slight modifications in each.

We ask that patrons respect a 2 person limit per washroom. This will be self regulated.
Due to the new social distancing requirements, we will have a 40 person limit (not including staff) at Bolder. We will give 10 patrons access to the facility each half hour and they will have a 2-hour climbing window. All 10 spots are open to reservations and any remaining unreserved spots will be open for drop-ins, however there are no designated drop-in spots. If you are planning on dropping into Bolder please check out our website which has a live counter (number of people in the facility) and try to arrive on the hour or half hour (for example, arrive at 6pm, 6:30pm, 7pm and so on). You do not need to call the gym to drop in, simply check the live counter and make your way over. Please note that there is a chance that you will not get in / have to wait to get into the facility if you are dropping in without a reservation. If so, we will ask to wait in your car or somewhere outside the building.
You can reserve a time to climb on our website by clicking on "Booking" from the home page on our new website. Bookings are now open to everyone and are not limited to members or punch card holders only. Each time slot is 2 hours; we strongly encourage you to arrive on time as your session will not be extended past the booked end time if the gym is full even if you arrive late. If you do not arrive within the first 30 minutes and do not call to let us know you are running late, you will be considered a no-show. Guests will be prompted to pay for the admission at the end of the booking process. PLEASE READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS WHEN YOU MAKE A RESERVATION FOR OUR COMPLETE NO-SHOW, CANCELLATION, AND RESCHEDULING POLICY.
All reservation cancellations must be made by phone; please call the gym at 403-255-9565 with your name and the date/time of the reservation you would like to cancel. Cancellations made via email will not be accepted. PLEASE READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS WHEN YOU MAKE A RESERVATION FOR OUR COMPLETE NO-SHOW, CANCELLATION, AND RESCHEDULING POLICY.
Most food and drink are still available at Bolder. We won’t be serving pies or grilled cheese until it is safer to do so. We will be serving coffee, however we will not be able to serve you in your own personal mug. We’re using disposable cups only. Kombucha, soda and bars are still available. Bolder coffee is also still available in 1lbs bags. You may bring your own food and drinks to Bolder, however we ask that you keep all personal items, including food and drink in your cubby at all times. Only a chalk bag is permitted in the climbing area
No, we cannot properly sanitize climbing hold without removing them from the wall. The climbing industry is collectively not sanitizing climbing holds. Our focus is to keep the patrons clean and safe through hand washing, hand sanitizers and education.
Currently we will not be offering any programming at Bolder until the social distancing measures relax. We will have some youth team activity during off-peak hours.
All memberships were reactivated on June 12th when the gym reopened unless otherwise specified by the member. Prepaid membership have been extended by the exact amount of time of the closure, and reoccurring memberships were not billed in June to account for the 2 week credit from March's closure. Membership billing has resumed as of July 1st. If you need to freeze or cancel your membership, you can do so in person at the gym or via email by emailing info@bolderclimbing.com. You will still need to fill out a freeze/cancellation request form and send it back if you are making the request via email. Refunds will not be issued to members if they did not submit a freeze/cancellation request with adequate notice (15 days before the end of the month for cancellations, 2 days before the end of the month for freezes).
If you have any other questions of concerns about your membership, please contact info@bolderclimbing.com
